We kicked off the fall season with an unforgettable evening at the Woodlawn Theatre, and what a night it was! Our Free Family Movie Night on September 22nd brought families from all over Birmingham together for an afternoon of cinematic magic.
A Community Coming Together
Our staff had the pleasure of chatting with a few attendees and their enthusiasm captured the spirit of the night. One mom shared, “My daughter takes lessons at Mason Music in Mountain Brook. This is so cool that you guys are putting this on. The place is beautiful and we even invited our friends and their kids. Clifford the Big Red Dog is one of my daughter’s favorite cartoons!” Seeing her daughter’s eyes light up when she realized they would be watching a realistic version of Clifford was a highlight for many. “They made Clifford look a little too real—ha!” she laughed. Iit was moments like these that reminded us why we put on the event.
Another father who attended reflected on his connection to the area: “I grew up in Woodlawn, but I haven’t stopped by in years. I’ve always driven through Woodlawn and didn’t know this place existed. This place [Woodlawn Theatre] is gorgeous. We’ll definitely be coming back again!”
Nurturing Young Talent
The night also showcased the budding talents of our young audience members. One mom shared her son’s budding interest in music: “My son was given drumsticks from a drummer at church. After that, he fell in love with drums. He has a natural talent for it. All he needs to do is hear what the drummer is playing and watch him, then he’s able to turn around and replicate it almost exactly. We think it’s about time to get him some lessons so he can really start advancing.” We’re thrilled that events like these inspire families to explore music education and nurture their children’s passions!
As the first feature began and families settled in with their snacks, there was a sense of togetherness. We are so grateful for everyone who joined us and helped make this evening a success. The Mason Music Foundation is dedicated to enriching our community through music education and events and your participation makes it all possible.
Looking Ahead
As we look forward to our next Family Movie Night on October 6th, we invite you to join us once again for more films, fun, and community spirit. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with your neighbors, make new friends, and celebrate the arts together.
Thank you for being a part of our first fall movie night! We can’t wait to see you at the next one!
