Understanding Our Impact Through Data and Stories
At Mason Music Foundation, we know that music changes lives—but we also believe in measuring that impact. Twice each year, we conduct a Student Impact Survey to better understand how music lessons are shaping our students’ confidence, creativity, academic success, and overall well-being.
The survey gathers feedback from both students and parents through a simple Google Form with a mix of multiple-choice, scaled, and open-ended questions. Responses help us:
- Strengthen our programs based on real student experiences
- Identify opportunities to support individual students and teachers
- Communicate our impact clearly to donors, partners, and the community
Our Process
Each survey cycle includes:
- Participants: Students ages 7–18 and parents of younger students
- Frequency: Conducted bi-annually (summer and winter)
- Format: Online questionnaire with a combination of
- Likert scale ratings (1–5)
- Multiple-choice questions
- Open-ended reflections
Surveys are analyzed to identify key trends and correlations across categories like:
- Student–Teacher Relationship
- Musical Skills
- Self-Confidence
- Academic Performance
- Family Life
- General Well-Being
Key Insights from Summer 2025
Our first survey, completed by 55 students and parents, revealed overwhelmingly positive outcomes:
- Median scores in every category were 4 or 5, showing strong perceived benefits across all areas.
- Families reported that lessons have strengthened confidence, family connection, and emotional well-being.
- Students noted a deep sense of pride in their progress—especially in performing, learning new songs, and creating original music.
- Longer enrollment and frequent practice were associated with higher confidence and fewer school disciplinary incidents.
